Wild Honey @ Mandarin Gallery
The Mandarin Hotel in Singapore underwent extensive renovations in 2009 and 2011 to create Mandarin Gallery, a new 4-storey shopping mall. Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery serves scrumptious all-day breakfast. I ordered Parisienne which is stuffed savoury french toast with signature brioche, leg ham, gruyère cheese, Dijon mustard, topped with fried eggs & Hollandaise sauce with salad & vine pearl tomatoes.
Banana Leaf Apolo Little India
This is one of the better known restaurants in Little India. Food is served on a banana leaf. Their specialties are fish head curry and masala chicken. Reservation is essential as it is very busy with locals and tourists.
This is a microbrewery, pub and restaurant offering freshly brewed beer and authentic Thai food. A live band plays on certain days of the week, or you might be invited to sing on stage.
It’s Lunar New Year so even Thai restaurants serve Yusheng (撈起魚生) or Prosperity Toss, which is a quintessential dish of new year celebrations. The ingredients, each having an auspicious meaning, are served separately at the table. The main ingredient is raw fish or sashimi, symbolising abundance and excess throughout the year. Everyone around the table stands up and tosses the ingredients into the air with chopsticks while saying various auspicious greetings out loud, or simply “lo hei, lo hei” (撈起、撈起). It’s certainly a fun and lucky way to start the new year.
